Elect a teacher to the board!
About Rich Randall
My name is Rich Randall, and for 27 years I taught Political Science at Merced College. I have the honor of teaching over 13,000 Merced College students throughout my career. I have also taught at UC Davis, Stanislaus State, and three other Community Colleges. My only full-time teaching position was at Merced College. I served in many roles at the college, including faculty Senator, budget committee member, lead negotiator in contract negotiations, and I served four terms as the Faculty Union President. As President of the faculty union, I had the honor and privilege of working with multiple college Presidents.
I believe that having served in multiple faculty roles, I would add a unique perspective to the Board of Trustees. My experience on the budget committee would be invaluable in helping guide the college to prudent fiscal leadership. Having served in multiple roles would also give me insight into the needs of the various constituencies of the campus. As a former community college student, I understand the importance of the community college mission and how it transforms lives-- because it transformed mine. Most importantly, I wish to serve both the wishes and interests of the voters that I would represent.
I’m excited to run as the Area 4 Board Member and represent our community.
Excellence in Teaching My career as a Political Science teacher at Merced College spanned 27 years. Over the course of those years, I received the Professor of the Year Award 10 times from our honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. In those years, I taught over 13,000 Merced College students Political Science. I also coached softball for 8 years as an assistant coach at Merced College
Experienced in Faculty Leadership Beyond teaching, I served in many faculty leadership roles throughout my career. I spent almost 20 years serving on the budget committee. I spent eight years (four terms) as the Merced College Faculty Association (MCFA) President. I successfully negotiated four contracts as a union negotiator and mentored my successors for two additional contracts. These roles have given me experience in advocating for the needs of those I represent.
Dedication to Our Community My wife and I raised our daughter and son in Merced. I was proud to have both of them attend Merced College as students. I recently became a grandpa and look forward to watching my granddaughter grow up in our community.
